That made me so nostalgic! Reading this felt like catching up on a dear friend’s life update xd Thank you for writing this 🤍 it was genuinely heartwarming, made me miss my own version of Pool Club.

It’s heartwarming when sharing my specific experience can remind another person of their own similar one. Thank you so much for reading ❤️

I love your description of how life changed. And it’s so true. We miss those special early moments when friends were bonding and the night seemed never-ending. Don’t let those things sit too long in storage. Take them into your new life or let them fly. What you are doing now will outshine all of that and you will remember those first times with happiness, some nostalgia, and no regrets!

I love this perspective! Thank you, Salley 💙

As always with your writing, I really enjoyed reading this! What a wonderful and hopeful insight. You truly have a knack for drawing readers into the details of your writing. Since I’m currently still studying at an art university, I can relate to so much of this! I know the exhausting competitive dynamics and the nastiness of the industry (the literary industry, in my case). And I, too, have found that healthy, stable friendships are the only way to survive in this environment. Sending you lots of love from the other side of the world <3

Thank you thank you 💕 Sending love back to you! Isn’t it interesting how creative academic environments can sometimes breed such competitiveness? I feel like we get enough of that in the “real world”… safe, supportive spaces are so important to help us sustain our creativity.

Yes, it's really fascinating that this world, of all places, can sometimes be so cruel. Maybe it's because the arts are so dependent on grants and a few other major funders. Everyone is fighting for a tiny bit of attention and money from a handful of large institutions.

Awww I loved this. It reminded me of a similar time in Austin when I was in my late 20s, before everyone got married and had kids. Also the pandemic unofficially disbanded our group too. We’re all still friends, but the “club” vibes are gone. It was a bittersweet read!

I’m realizing that pre-pandemic time feels nostalgic for a lot of people, which makes a lot of sense. Spending your 20s in Austin sounds so fun!

I really loved this. It's funny how we often think we’re building a career, when we’re actually building a life. The films, jobs, and cities all changed, but the people became the thing that lasted! Really beautiful reflection, Emi.

“When we’re actually building a life” 😭 Yes. You get it.
